Making Church Relevant

Kids' Service Projects

"...we must work hard and help the weak. We must remember the words of the Lord Jesus. He said 'it is more blessed to give than to receive'". (Acts 20:35)

At Fairborn UMC, we teach our children the importance of missions and ministry in our lives as Christians. Every month, service projects are incorporated into the Sunday morning program so that our kids can begin to understand the ways in which they can help others in their families, in their church, in their community, and in the world.

The children are currently involved in a variety of service projects that include:

Ministry for our church:
  • Sharpening pew pencils
  • Folding clothes for storage
Missions for our community and world:
  • Decorating notes to put into the SnakPaks that Fairborn UMC is sending home with children in the primary school this fall
  • Packing "Fun Bags" filled with toys and activities to send to the children in long-term care at Dayton Children's Hospital
  • Sponsoring a child in India through Compassion International
    • (As a part of this mission, the children are learning about the culture and area of India where their little girl lives.  The kids are writing letters to this 5 year-old girl and the offering that the children take up on Sunday mornings goes directly to her.

Service to others is such a large part of being a Christian and we are so proud of our children for beginning their journey in a life of service!
