Church Administration
Fairborn St. Luke UMC fulfills its mission
through the work of the following committees: Trustees
The Trustees supervise,
care for, and have oversight responsibility
of all real property and equipment owned
by our church or acquired by the church
or any organization within the church. They
also annually review the adequacy of property,
liability, and crime insurance coverage,
as well as the adequacy of personnel insurance. Other
responsibilities include the administration
of bequests, trusts, trust funds, and investments.
Larry Hartog chairs the Trustees.
Administrative Board
The Administrative
Board is the continuing, year-round governing
body of our church. Board
members are elected at the Charge Conference. All
members and organizations of our church are
answerable to the Administrative Board, except
the Trustees who answer to the Charge Conference. The
Administrative Board has general oversight
of the administration and program of our
church, and meets at least quarterly to
carry out this responsibility.
Committees and offices represented on the
Administrative Board include the Trustees,
the Pastor/Staff Parish Relations Committee,
the Finance Committee, and the Committee
on Lay Leadership.
David Lloyd chairs the Administrative Board
and Terre Semler is vice chair.
Pastor/Staff Parish Relations (P/SPR) Committee
The
P/SPR Committee deals with relations
between the pastor (and other employed
staff) and the people of the church. The
broad purpose of this committee is to aid
the pastor in making his or her ministry
effective by being available for counsel,
keeping the pastor advised concerning conditions
within the congregation as they affect
relations between pastor and people,
and continually interpreting to the people
the nature and function of the pastoral
office.
The committee meets at least quarterly but
may meet more often if there is a need to
do so.
Randy Sturtz chairs the P/SPR Committee.
Finance Committee
The
Finance Committee's role is that of budget
making, funds raising, and funds administration. All
financial requirements to be included in
the annual budget are submitted to this committee.
The committee then compiles a completed budget
and submits it to the Administrative Board
for review and adoption. The Finance
Committee then develops and implements
plans to raise sufficient income to meet
the budget, and then administers those
funds accordingly.
Bob Boian and Vicky Cox co-chair the Finance
Committee.
Education Committee
The
Education Committee is responsible for
organizing, supervising, and staffing
our church educational ministry. The church
school program supports the Christian education
of adults, youth, and children. It
provides opportunities for discipleship,
faith sharing, spiritual discernment,
Bible study, prayer, and theological
reflection.
The Education Committee is chaired by Charles
Benner.
Council on Ministries
The
Council on Ministries may be thought
of as a strategy group of key officers,
work area chairpersons, and coordinators
tasked to study our church's strategy for
mission — and
coming up with new ideas and directions for
the church. When a proposal is approved
by the Administrative Board it then becomes
the Council's task to implement it. Our
Council on Ministries is comprised of
various work areas, including Membership
Care, Lay Pastoral Care, Social Concerns,
Worship, Education, Outreach and Mission,
and Evangelism.
The Council on Ministries chairperson is
Terre Semler.
The Committee on Lay Leadership
The charge for
the Committee on Lay Leadership is to
identify, develop, deploy, evaluate,
and monitor Christian spiritual leadership
for the local congregation. Members
of this committee are attentive to developing
and enhancing their own Christian spiritual
life in light of the mission of the church.
In conducting its work, the committee identifies
the spiritual gifts and abilities of the
membership and works along with other members
of the Administrative Board to determine
the diverse ministry tasks of the congregation
and the skills needed for leadership.
Pastor Merle chairs this committee; Dave
Bostelman is our Lay Leader.
